Federally Funded Health Insurance
The U.S. Census says that the number of uninsured Americans is at an all time high. They point to many factors as the cause for this. Maybe the economy or decline in employer sponsored plans. A chief reason could be the rising cost of insurance premiums.
There are several Government funded programs that American’s should be aware of. Maybe this can help the staggering number of uninsured in America. Many people do not think they are eligible. You may be surprised. Many families and individuals are eligible.
We will cover the basic of the federally funded programs available to us. All of them have certain eligibility requirements that you must meet. With just the basics you can gather an idea and find the resources to find out if you or someone you know is eligible.
Medicare will cover anyone over the age of 65. It is not limited to only the elderly. It will also cover some people under 65 with a disability. And any age person facing End-Stage Renal Failure is eligible.
Medicare has a free plan called Part A (Hospital Insurance). For a small monthly fee you can purchse Part B (Medical Insurance). The Medical part can help with check ups and office visits. You can contact your local SSI office for more details.
Medicaid is a federally funded health insurance program for low income individuals and their families. It is State administered, so each State sets forth guidelines for eligibility. You can visit your local Dept, of Human Services to find out if you meet their guidelines.
CHIP or Children Health Insurance Plan is another State administered plan. This plan is limited to children. It provides affordable dental and medical benefits for the child. There is income standards and the child must be younger then 18.
If you do not qualify for one of these plans you do not have to be one of the uninsured. Affordable health insurance can still be found on an individual bases. It may not be the most benefit rich plan you dream of, but it can cover the basics and eliminate some worries.
