For Years, We Had Yearned For A Baby, And Thanks To Our Infertility Insurance, Our Dream Came True
We gave a great sigh of relief the day we found out that our infertility insurance would cover my wife’s infertility treatments. She was able to go through the process of dealing with her infertility and eventually we were very joyful to see the positive symbol on a pregnancy test. I didn’t know this beforehand, but infertility treatment includes many different things all designed to increase a couple’s fertility, but all of this was covered by our insurance plan. Many times, it can be years before the family involved is able to conceive a child, and it is almost always after a long period of infertility treatments.
We were truly the lucky ones. Sadly, infertility treatment is far outside the scope of the common insurance plan, which will not include them. Take the case of one family, the Hiltons, their attempts to have a child have been ineffective though nearly a decade. And take my word for it, they have long desired children. When the time came to send out baby announcements, I was at the point of not sending one because it might cause them emotional distress. And, as I predicted, Mindy fled to her bedroom in tears when she heard the news.
They’re tried some infertility treatments, but were only able to afford perhaps a month’s worth of treatments. Since they had only a little moment in which to become pregnant, their odds were quite small. Although their first attempt was unsuccessful, they have begun a new plan to save what little cash they can to put it toward another round of treatments. My heart goes out to them as while Maurice’s job provides them with health insurance, that same insurance does not include infertility insurance.
I feel like this whole situation is unfair and I decided to investigate in order to find out what kinds of insurance plans are available that do contain infertility insurance. I was quite shocked when I understood that finding such a plan is extremely difficult. It is even difficult to find a plan that contains something simple, like short-term disability insurance.
My poor friends long desperately for a child to hold and care for. If only they had access to the same therapy that we did, they could be able to have their own baby. I don’t know what I would do without my daughter and it makes things harder that visiting our friends is so uncomfortable. I feel a sense of wonder each time I glance at my child’s face and I can’t help but wish that others could have infertility insurance in order to be as happy as we are.
