Fundraising Concerns Cause Probe Into New Pyjamas Campaign.
Elaine Mcgonigle, director of the New Pyjamas campaign to raise cash for Edinburgh’s Sick Children’s Hospital has been at the centre of a probe into a 15m campaign. McGonigle has been investigated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator after 500,000 was spent on the campaign and just 60,000 was raised.
10 of the charity’s staff have undergone a formal period of consultation regarding their future as McGonigle holds “lengthy” meetings with the officials. Sources close to Ms McGonigle have said she is carrying a “dossier” of paperwork in a bid to prove she has is innocent and that “she has clearly been preparing for this and is 100% confident in her own case”
“She feels her paper trail is absolutely watertight” a colleague has stated, “and that all her documents will show no wrongdoing on her part”
McGonigle stated that “I Am required, under my professional code of conduct and practise, to ensure that I advise on, and act in accordance with, those laws and regulations attendant to charitable activity in Scotland”
She had made reference to claims regarding her past employment and allegations of a ‘secret job’ and denied any bogus activity on her behalf and that the references provided for her current post were “factual, exemplary and thoroughly checked” at the time of her appointment to the post.
In reference to the story surrounding the charity, the Chairman of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation stated; “We want to thank the staff who worked on the New Pyjamas campaign for their dedication, effort and hard work. However, it became clear to the trustees that the New Pyjamas campaign would not, under its current structure, meet the targets initially set out.”
“We have no intention, to strip the SKFF of its independence” Chairman of NHS Lothian, Dr Charles Winstanley stated, “We are working with them to find the best solution for raising funds for our new hospital
