Medicare Supplement Plans- Plan A
Medicare supplement plan A is the first of the Medicare plans that was designed to supplement existing coverage. Medicare, even when it was first launched in 1965, was not designed to be an all-encompassing healthcare product. It was simply created to take the edge off of the medical expenses that senior citizens experience. Over time, the healthcare industry and the economy have changed drastically. Rather than overhauling the entire Medicare system, the government decided to implement 12 plans for supplemental coverage and two variations of plans F and J with higher deductibles and lower monthly payments, so that people could get complete healthcare.
Medicare supplement plan A is the one that is required to be sold by all companies who sell Medicare supplement coverage. It is not a common plan, but it does have basic coverage and a few benefits that people can enjoy. However, the monthly payments and deductibles are usually what keep people from picking this plan when there are others that are similar with lower payments and/or deductibles. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Plan A. Depending on where you live, this plan might even be cheaper than some of the others. However, since the government decided to standardize everything EXCEPT pricing, you might find a variety of prices on plans of all shapes and sizes.
There are dozens upon dozens of companies that sell Medicare supplement plan F and the other supplemental insurance policies. You just need to check them out and find one that will offer you affordable insurance with a quality service. Many people get instantly overwhelmed and dread dealing with Medicare and Medicare supplements, sometimes years even before they have to do anything about it. This causes them to lose interest and just rush through to get the coverage that they need and be done with it, which is what leads to getting the wrong coverage or paying too much for the coverage that you get.
Stop looking at Medicare supplement plan F and its fellow plans as something to be afraid of. Embrace them because they protect you from financial ruin and allow you to get the medical care that you need. Take a few minutes to read about Medicare supplements and how they work before you start shopping so that you can be more prepared and informed for what is coming your way. Most importantly, never sell yourself short by rushing through the process and not getting what you need, because you will regret it someday.
